Why self-assessment grants expire

Only one of the three ways to earn a skill carries an expiration date: the self-assessment. Manual reviewer grants and course-exam grants are both treated as durable evidence and never expire.

Why the difference exists

A self-assessment is a point-in-time, self-directed quiz — useful, but weaker evidence than a reviewer's sign-off or a full course completion. Treating it as time-limited keeps the Talent Pool and any skill-based search honest: a self-assessed skill from two years ago that was never renewed is no longer shown as current.

What happens at expiry

  1. A daily worker sweep checks every self-assessment grant against its expiration window.
  2. Before deleting an expired grant, it fires a notification to the learner so the loss is never silent.
  3. The grant is then removed, and the skill disappears from the learner's held skills until it is re-earned.
